Our Coaching Approach
Executive coaching, as a formal service, is a relatively new phenomenon. While there is a strong feeling and mounting evidence that coaching is effective in facilitating strong shifts and improvements in performance and impact, there is still little clarity about the body of professional knowledge and skill that underpins best practice.
At enso, we are strongly committed to the expansion of this body of knowledge and the development of the coaching profession as a whole. In particular, we are committed to the concept of evidence based coaching, and we look to well founded academic research to better inform our work.
Additionally, our coaches come from variety of backgrounds and professional disciplines, and the interweaving and synergy of these disciplines provides us with a wide and increasing variety of models, tools and techniques to help us move the coaching outcomes forward.
Among the disciplines represented in our coaching panel are Organisational and Clinical Psychology, Adult Learning, Drama, Philosophy and Business & Economics, and it is fascinating to see how ideas and approaches from a wide variety of sources can maximise our effectiveness as coaches.
However, the true effectiveness of the process lies not in models and techniques, but in the ability of the coach to create a space in which the executive can safely expose key issues and explore them with honesty. Our proven success in this space is based on two key investigations.
Firstly, we help the executive increase their self-awareness, using skilled questioning techniques to help the individual uncover the underlying assumptions that are the foundation for their perceptions of the world, the actions and decisions that they take and the outcomes that they achieve.
Secondly, we work with the executive to help them explore and refine their skills and strategies, developing actionable approaches. Building more effective leadership requires the development of new ways of acting, shedding light on unproductive habits and replacing them with new approaches that drive high performance.
